Hiring a Mover

Questions that protect you from move-day surprises.

Informed customers book with more confidence. Move Plus believes licensing, estimates, fees, packing, storage, valuation, and paperwork should all be easy to understand before move day.

Before Booking

Ask these before you sign.

A reputable mover should be able to answer plainly and put important details in writing.

  • What is your legal company name, DBA, USDOT number, MC number, and California permit information if my move is within California?
  • Is the estimate hourly, binding, not-to-exceed, weight-based, volume-based, or subject to change after inventory review?
  • Which fees are included: travel time, fuel, stairs, elevator, long carry, shuttle, packing materials, storage, and waiting time?
  • What valuation or protection options are available if something is lost or damaged?
  • Will my move be handled by your crew, a partner, or another carrier?
  • What documents should I receive before pickup, at pickup, and at delivery?

Red Flags

Pause if the answers are vague.

Moving customers often get hurt by unclear estimates, missing paperwork, and surprise charges. A little caution helps.

No license details

If a mover will not provide carrier identifiers or legal business details, keep looking.

Large deposit pressure

Be careful with pressure tactics, vague booking language, or a quote that seems far below every other mover.

No inventory discussion

A price without inventory, access, distance, date, and service details is not very useful.

Unclear delivery terms

For long-distance moves, understand delivery windows, contact process, and what happens if dates change.
