Pack smarter, protect better, and make move day easier.
This original Move Plus guide gives customers practical packing tips for supplies, room-by-room prep, fragile items, electronics, clothing, tools, first-night essentials, and unpacking.
Start Here
Three rules for a smoother move.
Good packing is not about doing everything at once. Work room by room, label clearly, and keep important personal items with you.
- Start with items you use least: seasonal decor, books, guest rooms, storage closets, garage shelves, and archived files.
- Declutter before you pack. Moving fewer items saves time, space, and money.
- Label every box on at least two sides with the room, a short contents note, and whether it is fragile or heavy.
- Keep passports, IDs, medical records, jewelry, medication, laptops, chargers, keys, and first-night essentials with you.
Supplies
Use boxes and materials that match the item.
The right supplies prevent damage and make boxes easier to stack, carry, and unpack.
Best for books, tools, canned goods, dishes, and other heavy items.
Good for kitchen items, toys, decor, office supplies, and most household goods.
Use for lightweight items such as pillows, bedding, towels, lampshades, and bulky linens.
Wardrobe boxes, dish packs, mirror cartons, TV boxes, mattress bags, stretch wrap, and packing paper can make a big difference.
Room by Room
Finish one room before starting another.
Room-by-room packing keeps the inventory cleaner and makes unpacking less chaotic.
- Kitchen: wrap dishes individually, stand plates on edge, and fill empty spaces with paper so items cannot shift.
- Bedrooms: use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes and pack bedding in easy-to-find boxes or clear bags.
- Electronics: take photos of cable connections, use original packaging when available, and label cords.
- Garage: drain approved equipment and do not pack paint, chemicals, propane, aerosols, or flammables for the moving truck.
Fragile Items
Give breakables extra time and extra space.
If an item is expensive, sentimental, unusually shaped, or difficult to replace, tell Move Plus before move day.
- Wrap each glass, plate, and delicate piece separately. Stuff glasses with paper before wrapping the outside.
- Place heavier items at the bottom of the box and lighter fragile items toward the top.
- Use picture boxes or mirror cartons for framed art and mirrors; protect corners and glass surfaces.
- Remove bulbs and shades from lamps, and pack lampshades separately so they are not crushed.
Final Week
Reduce surprises before the crew arrives.
The last week is about confirming details and making the destination easy to unload.
- Confirm addresses, phone numbers, arrival window, parking, elevator reservations, stairs, long carries, and building rules.
- Separate anything that should not go on the truck and mark items that are staying behind.
- Pack a first-night box with toiletries, clothes, towels, basic tools, snacks, pet items, kids essentials, and bedding.
- At delivery, label rooms and have one decision-maker available to direct furniture placement.
